DUE to heavy rains in the upper reaches of the Maykha and Malikha rivers in northern Myanmar, the water level of the Ayeyawady River began rising on the morning of 30 June. By 1 July, the water level in Myitkyina had exceeded 1,368 centimetres. In response, Tatmadaw personnel, police, fire brigades, and local social aid organisations are conducting rapid search and rescue operations.

It may continue to rise from the present water level by about four feet during the next one day and may remain above its danger level.

1 July 2024 ACCORDING to the review of the ministries concerned regarding the application of the Arakan National Party for the right to continue as a political party and registration under Section 25 of the Political Parties Registration Law, the Union Election Commission found that the party is contrary to the stipulations in Section 7 of the Political Parties Registration Law. The UEC cancelled the application of the party in accordance with the decision of the Union Election Commission Plenary Meeting 11/2024 under the Political Parties Registration Rules (g) on 1 July.

BURMESE roofed turtle (Batagur trivittata), which can be found only in Myanmar, inhabits in the Chindwin River near Linpha Village in Khamti Township, Sagaing Region, and over 1,000 turtles are under protection. Myanmar has over 1,000 roofed turtles across the nation. They are conserved under a caging system in the Chindwin River, and over 200 turtles are released every year. During the third week of June, 25 male roofed turtles and 25 female roofed turtles were released into Chindwin River for the sixth time.

TO combat illegal trade, an inspection team led by the Yangon Region Illegal Trade Eradication Special Task Force, under the directive of the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, conducted inspection on 27 June. The target location was Warehouse No 231/B in Industrial Zone 2 of Hlinethaya (Eastern) township, situated on Myataung Wungyee U Hmo Road. Authorities seized 600 kilogrammes of Ultra Mild Cream Natural Moisturizer, valued at approximately K4 million, due to a lack of proper documentation. Legal action is being taken according to customs procedures.
