Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn attended the 15th Thuta Swesone Literary Award ceremony in Yangon yesterday.
Speaking at the event, the Union minister said it is important to engage in reading to have a positive mindset to do good things. Today, misunderstanding may arise due to certain interference, and reading fine literature that fosters critical thinking can help people maintain mutual trust.
For young people, especially, reading literature is essential to understand and uphold virtues such as respect (Garava) and humility (Nivata), as well as to develop the ability to critically analyze good and bad.
He continued that the Prime Minister is also a member of the Sarpay Beikman, values literature, and is always encouraging the youth to read, as literature is the life of the country and people. The Union minister briefed all on the awards.
Thuta Swesone Literary Award donor and member of the award selecting team, chairman of Swesone Media Group Dr Tin Tun Oo explained the work processes, reviews of the team and history of 12 winners.
The Union minister presented the Thuta Swesone Lifetime Achievement Literary Award to Dr Khin Maung Nyo and the Thuta Swesone literary awards to Saya Naing Zaw (Reference) and Bo Aye Myint Kyu (Biography).
Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein presented awards to Thein Tun (Myawady) (Fiction-arts) and Dr Thein Swe (Public Health) (Applied science), while regional Security and Border Affairs Minister Colonel Win Tint to Kyaw Kyaw Hlaing (Fiction-arts) and regional ministers to Nay Zin Lat (Translation), Maung Khit Tun (Belle-Letter), Hein Latt (Biography), Doc Htwe (Hsay/Mdy) (Belle-Letter), Kyaw Nyunt Yi (Fiction-arts) and Professor Dr Mya Thein Han (Applied science).
Dr Tin Tun Oo and Dr Khin Moe Moe presented K5 million for the quake-stricken staff of the Ministry of Information and K2 million for the Thuta Swesone library that marks U Phoe Kyar to the officials of the library.
The Yangon Region government provided K6.2 million for the 15th Thuta Swesone Literary Award ceremony. The prize is K3.7 million for the Lifetime Achievement Literary Award and K2 million for each of the Thuta Swesone literary awards.
The Union minister inspected the work processes of Sky Net of Shwe Thanlwin Media Group in Botahtaung township yesterday morning and proceeded to Hexagon Complex in Tamway township.
