The water level of the Ayeyawady River has risen in Kachin State due to heavy rains, causing floods in the residential areas of Myitkyina and nearby villages. At noon on 3 July, the river level dropped from the alarm point of 1,368 centimetres to 992 centimetres. The streets in the city were littered with rubbish, prompting Tatmadaw personnel from the Northern Command, fire brigade members, social volunteers, and departmental staff to conduct a collective clean-up operation.
