The Social Security Board has been operating in line with the Ministry of Health and Sports’ notifications and directives to protect and treat COVID-19 in factories, workshops, and workplaces. The SSB has instructed insured workers under quarantine to have the period marked as sick leave, for insured pregnant mothers to have 8 weeks to 26 weeks off as sick leave at a time, and can withdraw 60 per cent of monthly fees put into the employment injury benefit fund.
According to the latest statistics on 27 May 2020, there are 885 insured workers and 5,710 insured pregnant mothers under quarantine with 212 under quarantine provided K9,901,631 in financial compensation and 56 pregnant mothers provided K6,364,950.
Insured workers and pregnant mothers can withdraw their financial compensation by bringing a letter guaranteeing completion of their quarantine period and a medical report from the social security clinic to their respective township SSB office.
