The powerful earthquake that struck Mandalay on 28 March 2025 caused significant damage in the Nay Pyi Taw Council Area, Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, Magway Region, Shan State, and Bago Region. Due to heavy rainfall in Myitkyina, Kachin State, the water level of the Ayeyawady River has been rising since 1 June, resulting in flooding in riverside neighbourhoods. People affected by the floods are currently taking temporary shelter in monasteries and schools that remain unaffected by the water.
