PLANS are underway to install lightning conductors at eleven ancient buildings in the Bagan Ancient Cultural Zone, according to the Department of Archaeology and National Museum (Bagan Branch). Buu Pagoda and Dhammarazika Pagoda were struck by lightning during the last rainy season. Due to these incidents, authorities have been holding discussions on installing lightning conductors on eleven ancient buildings to protect them from the natural disaster of lightning.

ON the full moon day of Tazaungmone (Samañaphala Day), the pagodas and the resorts in and around Mandalay were packed with many people, enjoying the holiday and doing meritorious deeds. Starting from dawn, people offered candle lights, lotus robes and Kathina robes at the pagodas and monasteries as is the custom. At the Maha Muni Buddha Image, one of the most famous pagodas, the monks washed the face of the Buddha statue and offered lotus robes.
