Fuel has been distributed free to voluntary groups and departmental organizations that have carried out rescue work in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyawady Region, which has been flooded due to a leak in the Ngawun Dam, according to the Ayeyawady Region government.

Under the regional government’s arrangement and with close supervision by the Petroleum Product Regulatory Department, free fuel has been provided to rescue vehicles and vessels.

Altogether, 158 gallons of gasoline and 53 gallons of diesel were provided free of charge to rescue groups on 2 August, said the regional government, adding that the fuel supply will continue.

During the flood event, 1,734 houses and 1764 families in 10 wards or village tracts, as well as 6,371 rain-fed paddy acres owned by 2,593 farmers in six village-tracts, are still under water. According to statistics on 2 August, more than 14,000 people have been affected by the flood in Laymyethna.
