MYANMAR still claims to have avoided the coronavirus pandemic despite being surrounded by three countries battling the virus, including China where the outbreak started. As of Friday evening, 176 suspected cases have been tested since January, with none having returned a positive result, according to the government. Additionally, 12 suspected cases are still awaiting test results, the latest health ministry update said. Although no confirmed case has been identified, the authorities are taking measures to prevent the virus from gaining a foothold in the country.

A private donation of K11.1 million and 9 hospital equipment was made to Thanlyin People’s Hospital to help in protecting against COVID-19 yesterday.
Thiri Thudamma Mani Zaw Thadara U Zaw Win (Chairman, Zaw Htet Paing Engineering and Construction Group of Companies), his wife Daw Mi Mi Tin (Chanmyae Metta Specialist Hospital) and their daughter Ma Ei Mon Mon (CEO, Chanmyae Metta Specialist Hospital-Thanlyin) handed over the donations to the hospital’s medical superintendent Dr Cho Cho Lwin and officials.

The Ministry of Border Affairs has been sharing news and information on COVID-19, including how it spreads and preventive measures against it, at the universities, degree colleges and schools under the ministry since the spread of the virus.

Deputy Permanent Secretary U Soe Tun Nyo said the ministry has provided students with necessary hygiene equipment and they have closed their domestic vocational schools and youth training schools according to directives from the President’s Office.

THERE are a total of 160,581 students sitting for the Geography subject at exam centres locally and abroad on the eighth day of the matriculation exam for 2020.


The number of exam centres totaled 1,558 with 5 locations overseas and 1,558 nationwide.


Out of 160,581 students sitting for their exams on the eighth day, 22 are taking their exam at hospitals. Meanwhile, 7 hearing impaired persons, 31 visually impaired persons, 20 physical disabilities persons, 113 prisoners, and 14 students from Myawady, Kayin State took their exam.
