THE dossier on Myanmar’s traditional New Year Atar Thingyan festival, submitted for UNESCO’s World Intangible Cultural Heritage list, has been included on the preliminary list, according to a press release issued by the Department of Archaeology and National Museum on 6 November.

World Philosophy Day 2024 was observed on 21 November. The United Nations Educational Scientific and Culture Organization (UNESCO) established the third Thursday of November as World Philosophy Day in 2002.

ACCORDING to the News and Media Law of Myanmar, enacted in March 2014, the following objectives have been set for media development in the country:

THE emergence of National Victory Day is based on fine traditions and a good history, showing patriotism and the nationalistic spirit of the entire national people. ​​​​​​​BREATHING clean air is of utmost importance. Without inhaling clean air, living beings could die, and if they breathe in polluted air, it can shorten their lifespan and lead to death. In Myanmar, during the open season, awareness talks are held at township, neighbourhood, and village levels to prevent burning in open fields. Hence, efforts are made to prevent the burning of household and agricultural waste, to ensure proper disposal, and to regulate burning through incineration systems.

LIFE in a small town is undeniably different from life in a big city, isn’t it? It was around 1994. I was living in a small town and had a brief two-day trip to Yangon. In that small town, I was an English teacher, though not an especially well-known one. The reason for my visit to Yangon was to meet an English teacher there. His name was U Thein Naing, a respected teacher who was likely about three or four years older than I was. He was also the teacher of my younger siblings who lived in Yangon. I wanted to meet him to explore the possibility of connecting with his network and perhaps arranging some small study circles in Yangon.
