It was set up as the Motion Pictures and Play Organization in 1946, renamed as Motion Pictures Council in 1962, the Motion Pictures Committee in 1974 and the Myanmar Motion Pictures Organization in 1989. The organization reaches its 7th anniversary on 8 March 2025.
