A Myanmar delegation led by Union Minister for Construction U Myo Thant attended the ASEAN-China Ministerial Roundtable on Construction in Guilin, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and the opening ceremony of the 22nd ASEAN-China Expo in Nanning, China, from 14 to 17 September, returning to Yangon by air on 18 September.
While in Guilin on 14 September, the Union Minister and the delegation met separately with the Chinese Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. They discussed practical cooperation in housing and urban-rural development under the ASEAN-China construction cooperation framework, implementation of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and the China-Myanmar Economic Corridor (CMEC), regional socioeconomic development, and technical support for reconstructing basic infrastructure damaged by the Mandalay earthquake.
On 15 September, the delegation visited the ASEAN-China Building Technology Exhibition in Guilin, where they toured construction-related booths together with guests from ASEAN countries. In the afternoon, they attended the ASEAN-China Ministerial Roundtable on Construction 2025. At the meeting, Union Minister U Myo Thant highlighted the main theme, Enhancing Capacity through Digital Technology and Artificial Intelligence and Promoting High-Quality Development of the Construction Sector in ASEAN and China through Cultural Heritage Preservation. He stressed that the theme would support smart city development and low-carbon urban initiatives while ensuring preparedness for natural disasters. He also underlined the importance of improving livelihoods, implementing sustainable long-term development programmes, and achieving new urban development goals through ASEAN-China strategic cooperation.
He added that sharing advanced technologies in digital systems, green building, artificial intelligence, safety standards, and joint research outcomes through ASEAN-China construction meetings and expos would contribute to building better cities and social environments in the region.
On 16 September, the delegation joined the ASEAN-China Cooperation and Development Forum on the Building Industry 2025, organized by the Chinese Vice-Minister of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. A director-general from the Myanmar side participated in the open forum with a presentation titled Digital Transformation and Green Approach for Urban Development.
On 17 September, the delegation travelled from Guilin to Nanning with ministers and officials from ASEAN countries and China to attend the opening ceremony of the 22nd ASEAN-China Expo.
