Union Election Commission Chairman U Than Soe received Mr Abhay Thakur, Indian Ambassador to Myanmar, in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

They cordially discussed bilateral cooperation, India’s participation in Myanmar’s political processes and election observation, the establishment of good diplomatic relations between Myanmar and India standing as a good neighbouring country, the changes to the electoral system to be applied in the upcoming election, submission of Hluttaw candidates, holding of the elections in phases, the compilation of voter lists, usage of Myanmar’s electronic voting machines nationwide and the ongoing voter education programmes, the conditions for allowing election observation to ensure that the elections are free, fair, transparent, and justice, issues relating to the media, capacity-building programmes on electoral matters, including technical training supported by India, to be carried out in the post-election period, and the ongoing efforts to ensure the successful holding of the election.
