Prime Minister U Nyo Saw addressed the 62nd anniversary of the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme at the Parkroyal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
It was attended by the Prime Minister and his wife, Union ministers, Union-level dignitaries, the Indian Ambassador to Myanmar and his wife, deputy ministers, the Indian defence attaché and relevant officials of the embassy.
The ceremony was inaugurated with a video clip featuring the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation activities.
Indian Ambassador Mr Shri Abhay Thakur briefed the ITEC and made a speech.
In his speech, the Prime Minister said the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) Programme, which began on 15 September 1964, is one of the longest-running international capacity-building programmes.
He stated that while implementing cooperation programmes aimed at supporting the development of partner countries, bilateral relations had been strengthened and enhanced. The programme has provided important capacity-building training courses for Myanmar and its government servants, greatly contributing to the development of human resources. Myanmar is making efforts to further expand cooperation not only in the fields of economy, tourism, religion, and culture, but also in other sectors that will bring mutual benefits to both countries.
He also expressed gratitude to India for providing humanitarian assistance for disaster victims in 2023,2024, and 2025. He urged the government employees who completed training courses to serve duties with the skills and knowledge they acquired in their different fields for the development of the nation.
The former trainees of the ITEC Programme shared their experience.
The Prime Minister and his wife and attendees enjoyed the performance of Indian cultural dance troupes, had a documentary photo taken and had dinner together.
