UNION Minister for Electric Power U Nyan Tun, along with Deputy Minister U Aye Kyaw and officials from the ministry, visited the Paunglaung dam yesterday morning to inspect the installation of the hydraulic elevator dam (HED) at the spillway of the hydroelectric power plant in Zeyathiri Township.
Upon arrival at the Paunglaung Hydroelectric Power Plant, the Union minister and officials were briefed by officials from the Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management. They explained that the installation of the hydraulic elevator dam (HED) at the spillway of the Paunglaung Dam is 80 per cent complete, with ongoing efforts to ensure timely completion within the specified period.
According to the presentations, the Union minister emphasized the need for comprehensive efforts to complete the installation of the hydraulic elevator dam (HED) within the specified timeframe while also stressing the importance of workplace safety during working hours and meeting the project’s quality standards. Additionally, he inspected the condition of the dam.
The installation of a hydraulic elevator dam (HED), measuring 140.5 metres in length and 1.5 metres in height, at the spillway of the Paunglaung Dam has increased the water storage capacity from the original 549,000 acre-feet to 570,000 acre-feet, allowing for an additional storage of approximately 21,000 acrefeet of water. The annual electricity production capacity will increase from 911 million units to 919 million units, enabling a further eight million units of electricity to be generated. Efforts are underway to complete the entire project by the end of July.
