Union Minister U Ohn Maung attends Visit Nepal 2020, ministerial meeting

UNION Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Ohn Maung attended the inaugural ceremony of Visit Nepal 2020 and tourism ministerial meeting held in Kathmandu, Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, on 1 January.

In the morning, the Union Minister and party participated in the Ministerial Conclave 2020, the meeting based on the theme of Sustainable Tourism through Preservation of Natural and Cultural Heritages, at the Prime Minister’s Residence Baluwatar.

Objectives of the Conclave 2020 were to share initiatives taken by respective countries for sustainable tourism and to make joint initiatives in fighting against climate change and preservation of products from natural and cultural heritages.

The meeting was also attended by the foreign ministers and senior officials from China, India, Jamaica, Bhutan and Cambodia, as well as heads of foreign missions in Nepal.

In the afternoon, the inaugural ceremony of Visit Nepal 2020 was organized at the Sasharah Stadium, and it was launched by Nepali President Mrs Bidhya Devi Bhandari in the presence of foreign ministers, tourism firms and related organizations in Nepal and 40 foreign media organizations.

The Ministry of Culture, Tourism & Civil Aviation (MOCTCA) introduced new 100 tourist attractions, targeting two million foreign visitors to Nepal in 2020.

On 2 January, Union Minister U Ohn Win and party visited some significant places, including the birthplace of Buddha in Lumbini Park and Myanmar Golden Temple.

The Union Minister and party also held talks with the local tourism minister and the Lumbini Development Trust on cooperation in tourism industry between the two countries, the itinerary of Buddhist Pilgrimage Circuit that covers Cambodia, Myanmar, Nepal and India.

Myanmar delegation also visited the surrounding area of Mt Everest, one of the tourist attractions in Nepal.
