THE Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization (MyanTrade), under the Ministry of Commerce, will endeavour to bolster exports and explore new markets for maize through a Public-Private Partnership.
The MyanTrade director-general led a hybrid meeting on 2 September 2025 to explore the new maize market, in the presence of officials from the Trade Department, the Agriculture Department, Myanmar’s Economic Attaches from Thailand, India, China, Vietnam, the UAE, and the Philippines, as well as representatives from related institutions.
The Director-General highlighted enhancing international trade, exporting Myanmar’s maize in line with international market standards and penetrating new markets in the opening remark.
Additionally, according to the feasibility study for the value-added corn starch production project, corn starch is in high demand in the global market. Cornstarch can be used as a versatile ingredient in cooking, baking, food processing, the pharmaceutical industry, medical items for pets, commercial pet food, and as a fertilizer. Therefore, cornstarch production can substitute for imports. The director-general added that it is a potential item for exports beyond self-sufficiency.
Myanmar’s maize is required to meet the international quality standards and import regulations of target countries to expand its market reach. Myanmar Economic Attaches assigned in foreign countries will act as a bridge to analyze local consumption patterns and market demands, and connect Myanmar suppliers with foreign buyers. Myanmar will intensify Public-Private Partnerships in strengthening existing markets, such as the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, and China, and explore new potential markets, stated the director-general.
