Seven foreign nationals involved in online scams and gambling in Myawady were deported yesterday through the Myanmar-Thailand Friendship Bridge II, while four more foreigners were newly detained.

The deportees: five Kenyans, one Nigerian, and one Sri Lankan had illegally entered Myanmar through border routes and were engaged in unlawful activities in Shwe Kokko, KK Park and Kyaukkhet areas. They were officially handed over to their respective countries with proper documentation in coordination with Myanmar and Thai authorities, as well as embassy representatives.

Meanwhile, one Kenyan, one Filipino and two South Africans were also arrested yesterday for illegal entry into the same areas.

From 30 January to 2 September this year, 9,373 foreigners were apprehended for illegal entry, with 9,269 already deported and 104 awaiting repatriation.

Myanmar authorities reaffirmed their commitment to cooperate with neighbouring countries and international organizations in eradicating online scams and related crimes.
