Due to the damage sustained by the Union Supreme Court courtrooms following the earthquake on 28 March 2025, Chief Justice of the Union U Tha Htay and party visited the Zeyathiri District Court on the morning of 6 April to inspect potential temporary hearing locations.
The purpose was to ensure continued access to legal rights for the public and maintain regular judicial proceedings. During the inspection, the Union Chief Justice looked into the proposed sites for the Union Supreme Court’s Full Bench Court, Special Appellate Bench, Special Bench, and single-judge civil and criminal benches.
He also examined the site behind the district court, where four temporary courtrooms are planned to be constructed. They also inspected minor damage caused by the earthquake at the Zeyathiri District Court and Pobbathiri Township Court and stressed the need for carrying out necessary repairs. He also looked into staff relocation.
