As a powerful earthquake caused widespread on 28 March in Nay Pyi Taw, search and rescue operations were carried out at affected locations promptly. International rescue teams including Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF), contributed significantly to these efforts by providing specialized equipment, technology and rescue dogs, collaborating with local search and rescue teams to enhance the response.

The SCDF’s Operation Lionheart Contingent, led by Colonel Tay Zhi Wei, arrived at Yangon International Airport on 29 March with a team of 80 personnel, including one commander, two medical doctors, four paramedics, two structural engineers, 69 rescuers, two liaison officers and four rescue dogs. After arriving, they worked closely with Myanmar fire brigade in continuing the search and rescue operations.

Starting from the evening of 29 March, the SCDF team carried out life sign assessments and rescue operations in Nay Pyi Taw and Pyinmana. Further, the SCDF donated 11 types of rescue equipment to Fire Services Department to assist in their efforts, with the handover taking place at the Fire Brigade Headquarters.
