Pyidaungsu Hluttaw voted on amending provisions of sections in the 2008 Constitution on its 19th day meeting of 15th regular session yesterday.

Out of 654, a total of 633 MPs attended to vote and 21 persons were on leave.

Pyidaungsu Hluttaw Speaker U T Khun Myat announced that each provision could be amended with the number of 491 supporting votes to pass 75 per cent of MPs (490 representatives out of 654).

Hluttaw representatives continued to debate proposed amendments to the Constitution during the 18th-day meeting of the Second Pyidaungsu Hluttaw’s 15th regular session yesterday.
U Naing Htoo Aung of Natogyi constituency first took the floor and said that the word ‘disciplined’ in Articles 6-(d) and 7 should be removed as a ‘multi-party democratic system’ already carries the meaning in an even more comprehensive context.

The Pyidaungsu Hluttaw is scheduled to decide whether to accept proposed changes to the Constitution or not on 10 March, according to Speaker U T Khun Myat at yesterday’s assembly.


Hluttaw representatives also debated proposed amendments to the 2008 Constitution during the 17th-day meeting of the Second Pyidaungsu Hluttaw’s 15th regular session yesterday.

The 15th regular session of second Pyidaungsu Hluttaw held its 16th day meeting yesterday, debating the articles and sub-articles in the second bill to amend the State Constitution.

MP U Sai Ngon Sai Hein from Maukmai constituency opposed the proposal to amend sub-article (k) of Article number (25) in the table of bill for removing the Minister for Border Affairs from the members of the National Defence and Security Council.

THE Pyidaungsu Hluttaw continued its 15th regular session yesterday, debating amendments to the 2008 Constitution and discussing the findings of the Hluttaw Joint Public Accounts Committee on tax earnings of Union-level institutions in the second half of the 2018-2019 financial year.

During the debate, MP U Aung Kyaw Zan of Pauktaw Constituency spoke against a pro-posed amendment to sub-section (a) of Article 26 of the 2008 Constitution. He said he agreed that civil services personnel should remain free from party politics, as prescribed in sub-section (a) of Article 26.

THE second Pyidaungsu Hluttaw convened its 14th day meeting of 15th regular session yesterday, and Hluttaw representatives continued their debates on whether to amend or not some articles and sub-articles in the 2008 Constitution.


MP U Nai Thiha from Mon State constituency 7 supported the amendment of Article 8 for the substitution of ‘Union system’ with ‘democratic federal union’.


MP U Tun Tun from Pwintbyu constituency supported the amendment of sub-article (f) of Article 6 to put the wording ‘in accordance with public consent’ into it.

THE Pyidaungsu Hluttaw continued debate in its 13th day meeting yesterday on the articles and sub-articles in the second bill to amend the State Constitution.
MP U Nay Soe Aung from Wuntho constituency discussed the change of Myanmar language wording of ‘the disabled’ in sub-articles (a) and (b) under Article 32 and Article 344. He also suggested to annul Article 338 regarding the command of Defence Services on the armed forces, and Article 339 about the role of Defence Services to lead in safeguarding the Union against all international and external dangers.

THE 15th regular session of second Pyidaungsu Hluttaw held its 12th day meeting yesterday, and Hluttaw representatives debated articles and sub-articles in the second bill on amending the State Constitution.

MP U Wai Sein Aung from Rakhine State constituency 1 supported the recommendations of Joint Committee on Scrutinizing Second Bill Amending 2008 Constitution that proposed possible amendment of sub-articles (a) and (b) of Article 436 with the agreements made by two-third of elected representatives.
