UNDER Section 25 of the Political Parties Registration Law, the People's Workers Party and Akha National Development Party which are desirous of organizing political parties yesterday applied to the Union Election Commission for permission to establish political parties under the law and rules.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), as a common standard of achievement for all people and all nations, beginning with the historic passage “All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights” was adopted on 10 December 1948 on the UN General Assembly as a proclamation voted by the then United Nations Members. The preamble of the said Universal Declaration of Human Rights says “every individual and every organ of society, keeping this Declaration in mind, shall strive by teaching and education to promote respect for these rights and freedoms”. Accordingly, the Myanmar National Human Rights Commission has, since its inception, been educating the general public to enhance their awareness of the rights contained in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights through a variety of measures.
