THE 2022 World Red Cross Day Commemoration Ceremony took place at Sule ShangriLa Hotel in Yangon yesterday morning.

At the ceremony, Dr Maung Maung Myint, President of the Myanmar Red Cross Society, said that the theme of this year’s World Red Cross Day was ‘Be Human Kind-Red Cross Helping Everyone’.

He said at a time of COVID -19 pandemic, climate change, humanitarian emergencies, and heightened conflict, which are currently facing the world today, it is time for the Red Cross to spread the message of humanitarianism to all communities, which is one of seven principles of Red Cross.

The theme is to pay a tribute to the people of all ages, young and old, who continue to help those in needs with kindness that can make a big difference in their lives, he said.

Mr Stephan P ier r re Sakalian, Resident Representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Myanmar and Ms. Nadia Khoury, Resident Representative of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) in Myanmar addressed the ceremony. Then, a video of the Red Cross activities was presented to commemorate the World Red Cross Day 2022.

Afterwards, a video recording of the Myanmar Red Cross volunteers was shown in honour of the Red Cross members who served in the Myanmar Red Cross Brigade until the age of 65.

Afterwards, the President of Myanmar Red Cross Society presented certificates to Agga Maha Thiri Thudhamma Manijotadhara U Hla Tun and U Tun Tun Oo family of TTO Pharm Co., Ltd who have always provided necessary support to the township Red Cross branches.

The International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies across the world are marking World Red Cross Day on 8 May, the birthday of its founder, Henry Dunant.

The Myanmar Red Cross Society is celebrating this year’s World Red Cross Day in recognition of the courage and achievements of Red Cross volunteers and staff who have pledged to provide humanitarian services to save lives and change lives for the better.
