THE Government has accelerated the COVID-19 vaccinations across the country since the third wave of COVID-19 in Myanmar. Yesterday, a total of 57 media professionals received their first dose of the Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines at No (6) Basic Education High School in Botahtaung Township, Yangon.

After administering the vaccines to people over the age of 65, now the priority is given to those over the age of 55, people with disabilities, chronic and non-communicable diseases.

More and more people are willing to be vaccinated since they have known that the vaccines could save lives, and prevention is the key factor, according to Dr Hay Mar Zaw, Head of the Public Health Department in Botahtaung Township.

“As more people want to be vaccinated, immunization is done in four groups of 700 to 1,000 people a day,” she said. As young people who are not included in the priority lists for now also want to be vaccinated, the Ministry of Health is providing vaccinations based on the availability of the vaccine.

“We are so grateful to the Union Minister for Information and respective officials that we are now vaccinated,” said U Maung Maung Myint, editor-in-chief of a magazine. “During the meeting with the Union Minister, he asked us what he could help. I asked for the vaccination as we, media professionals and staff from the printing houses, are working despite the closure of the workplaces during the COVID-19 period. Today, we are vaccinated. I am so thankful for the vaccination and I urge everyone to be vaccinated,” he said.

A total of 1,970 people and more than 5,000 workers were vaccinated in Botahtaung Township in August. More than 1,900 people have been vaccinated in September, and of 7,900 staff from the city development committee, more than 2,500 staff have been vaccinated. It is also reported that the rest of the media persons will continue to be vaccinated.
