In his capacity as the Chairman of National Tourism Development Central Committee, Vice-President U Henry Van Thio looked into the development works at Ngalaik Sakanthar elephant camp, forest road and suspension bridge.

During the inspection tour to the elephant camp near Mile Post 217 of Yangon-Mandalay Highway, the Vice-President was accompanied by Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Ohn Win, Union Minister for Hotels and Tourism U Ohn Maung, Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman Dr Myo Aung, Deputy Minister U Tin Latt and officials. They fed the elephants and enjoyed the shows of giant creatures. The Vice-President and party then inspected the forest road on a wooden bridge which is 4,817-ft long from Htin Shu Taw elephant camp to the waterfront restaurants. The longest wooden bridge in Myanmar has been budgeted at K409.655 million of the 2020-2021 financial year, and a total of 3,070-ft length has been constructed until now.

The Vice-President also arrived at the suspension bridge construction site at the Ngalaik Sakanthar elephant camp. The 70 per cent of the bridge with 170-ft length and 4-ft width has been completed to date. At the Shwe Kyun Taw camp, the Vice-President heard reports on the development project which were first intended for the recreation place of staff members in Nay Pyi Taw and the nearby public.

The Vice-President instructed to promote the recreation site into a destination with full safety standards for local and foreign visitors.

He also discussed creating a clean environment at the forest resort and training for the more attractive elephants’ performances for the camp visitors.

The Vice-President and party grew conifer plants and rode motorboats in Ngalaik dam to have scenic views.
