The ASEAN Emergency Response and Assessment Team (ASEAN-ERAT) Level-2 Course on Early Recovery has been launched to strengthen rapid and more effective recovery efforts in the event of natural disasters in the ASEAN region. Participants from ASEAN member states will not only receive classroom instructions but will also conduct field visits to observe ongoing and completed recovery activities.

Myanmar is hosting the course at the Parkroyal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw from 3 to 7 August, and a total of 14 ASEAN-ERAT members from ASEAN member states are attending the training. The course is jointly organized by the Department of Disaster Management, the ASEAN-Japan Integration Fund (JAIF), and the AHA Centre. Resource instructors from the Nay Pyi Taw Council, the Ministry of Construction, the Department of Disaster Management, the AHA Centre, UNDP, IOM, IFRC, and the Myanmar Red Cross Society are delivering the training sessions.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win said the course aims to equip ASEAN-ERAT members with the knowledge and skills needed to systematically transition from emergency response to early recovery following disasters. It also seeks to enhance participants’ ex-pertise in recovery procedures, facilitate the exchange of international experience and modern recovery technologies, and strengthen the overall capacity of ASEAN-ERAT members. The course would provide a valuable platform for participants to share experiences.

Also present at the opening ceremony were Deputy Ministers Dr Than Soe and Dr Thant Zaw Lwin, Nay Pyi Taw Council Member U Tun Tun, relevant officials, the Operations Director of the AHA Centre and instructors.
