The Ministry of Legal Affairs and China-ASEAN Research Centre organized a bilateral meeting on legal cooperation and legislative research projects in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.

It was attended by Union Minister and Union Attorney-General Dr Thida Oo, Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney-General Dr Htein Lin Oo, departmental officials and a delegation led by Dr Zhong Jia of the China-ASEAN Research Centre.

At the event, the Union Minister said that the ministry is accelerating the legal awareness campaigns as per the 2020-2024 Strategic Plan entitled, “Providing Legal Service for Justice”. Therefore, the research projects under the legal service theme are the key roles as well as for the development of the legal sector, right legal services and legal advice. If the two sides deepen the legal cooperation and legislative research project, it can bring mutual benefits. The successful holding of bilateral dialogue between the ministry and the centre can implement the MoU on legal cooperation and legislative research projects and enhance the bilateral relations between Myanmar and China.

The meeting also discussed the research topics in the rule of law, formation of research groups, exchange of legislation, the establishment of China-Myanmar Legal Research Centre on research in combatting telecom fraud, online gambling, drug cases and other transnational crimes, China-Myanmar Commercial Arbitration Centre and teaching session of Union Minister and Union Attorney-General Dr Thida Oo at Southwest University of Political Science and Law (SWUL) as professor emeritus in 2025.
