The Fifth National Sports Festival continued yesterday morning at designated sports venues across Nay Pyi Taw.
In the Inter-States and Regions men’s under-23 basketball semi-finals held at Shwekyapin Gymnasium, the Shan State team defeated Kachin State 106-72, while Yangon Region secured a close victory over Mandalay Region 70-67.
For the Inter-State and Region men’s under-20 volleyball round-robin matches at Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex B, Ayeyawady Region triumphed over Rakhine State in straight sets. Shan State defeated Kachin State, and Kayin State outplayed Chin State 3-1.
Meanwhile, in the women’s volleyball matches, Mandalay Region claimed a straight-set victory over Nay Pyi Taw, and Kachin State also defeated Rakhine State in straight sets.
The Inter-States and Regions men’s under-21 football round-robin matches took place at Wunna Theikdi training grounds 3 and 4. Nay Pyi Taw secured a 2-0 win over Kayah State, while Mon State edged Yangon Region 2-1. In the women’s under-25 football matches at Bawgathiri and Lewe Township sports grounds, Nay Pyi Taw beat Mon State 2-1, and Mandalay Region claimed a 1-0 victory over Sagaing Region.
The Inter-States and Regions men’s futsal quarterfinals at Wunna Theikdi Futsal Stadium witnessed Shan State overcoming Kachin State 3-2, Taninthayi Region defeating Bago Region 4-3, Mandalay Region winning over Magway Region 9-3, and Yangon Region prevailing against Ayeyawady Region 7-5.
The Inter-States and Regions men’s Badminton quarterfinals at Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex C saw Yangon Region defeating Kayah State in straight sets, Bago Region beating Chin State 3-1, Shan State triumphing over Kachin State in straight sets, and Mandalay Region defeating Ayeyawady Region without dropping a set. In the women’s category, Yangon Region overcame Ayeyawady Region, Mandalay Region defeated Taninthayi Region, Bago Region triumphed over Mon State, and Shan State outplayed Sagaing Region.
For the Inter-States and Regions men’s team Sepak Takraw round-robin matches at Wunna Theikdi Sports Complex A, Shan State, Sagaing Region, Nay Pyi Taw, Kachin State, Yangon Region, Mon State, Mandalay Region, and several others secured victories in their respective matches. In the women’s category, Taninthayi, Mon, Yangon, and other teams achieved wins in their matches.
Under-25 Inter-States and Regions cricket matches in the round-robin stage took place at Wunna Theikdi sports grounds 1 and 2. In the men’s category, Kayin State defeated Mon State by 67 runs, Ayeyawady Region beat Mandalay Region by five wickets, Yangon Region triumphed over Shan State by six wickets, and Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory won against Bago Region by 111 runs. In the women’s competition, Rakhine State defeated Ayeyawady Region by three wickets, Nay Pyi Taw beat Kayin State by six wickets, Bago Region outperformed Magway Region by two wickets, and Mon State edged Mandalay Region by one wicket.
The Inter-States and Regions golf tournament held at the capital’s golf course featured individual and team events with various formats, attracting participants from states, regions, and Nay Pyi Taw Union Territory.
In the men’s 57-kilogramme Lethwei category, Yangon’s La Min Ko Ko defeated Rakhine’s Kyaw Swa Min, Ayeyawady’s Kyaw Swa Moe overcame Magway’s La Wun Aung, and Chin’s Gin Shan Maung triumphed over Nay Pyi Taw’s Arkar Phyo Wai. In the 71-kilogramme category, Mandalay’s Aung Myint Tun bested Taninthayi’s Thet Kyaw Htwe, while other winners included participants from Shan, Kachin, Sagaing and Rakhine States, each outperforming their opponents.
In women’s 52-kilogramme Lethwei, Magway’s Thinn Thinn Khine outclassed Sagaing’s Nan Ngei Ngei Htoo. Similarly, Kayin’s Nan Thandar Theint won the 54-kilogramme match, and Ayeyawady’s Chan Pyae Soe emerged victorious in the 57-kilogramme category.
Inter-ministerial men’s football round-robin matches were held at multiple venues. The Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs defeated the Ministry of Electric Power 2–0, the Ministry of Defence overcame the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture 6–1, and the Ministry of Home Affairs won 6–1 against the Ministry of Ethnic Affairs.
Union-level officials, deputy ministers, regional ministers, departmental heads, and enthusiastic sports fans attended and supported these matches.
In medal standings, Sagaing Region and Mon State each claimed one gold medal. Kayin and Rakhine states won a silver medal each, while Yangon and Mandalay Regions secured one bronze each. In the para-sports category, Ayeyawady Region excelled with 11 golds, followed by Bago Region with eight, Yangon Region with seven, and Mandalay Region with four, among other accolades.
