AMBASSADOR of Myanmar to Nepal, U Myo Myint Maung, attended the United Nations Day celebration in Nepal on 24 October, as reported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Nepalese military organized the event, and the Ambassador attended it at the invitation of General Ashok Raj Sigdel, the Chief of the Army Staff (COAS) of the Nepalese Army. During the ceremony, the Nepali Prime Minister, the Chief of the Army Staff and the representative of the UN agency delivered commemorative speeches.

The Nepalese Army is recognized as one of the most active contributors to UN peacekeeping missions, providing a large number of personnel to 52 missions across 41 countries on four continents, with a significant deployment of female peacekeepers.

On 23 October, Ambassador U Myo Myint Maung met with Mr Sanam Shakya, Senior Vice President of the Federation of Handicraft Associations of Nepal (FHAN), and his team at the Myanmar Embassy. They discussed Myanmar’s participation in FHAN’s upcoming international handicraft exhibition in the first week of December 2024. The Ambassador will liaise with relevant ministries in Myanmar to facilitate this collaboration.

The Ambassador also attended the GLOMUS Festival on 20 October, hosted by the Nepal Music Centre and the GLOMUS Network, which included music and dance performances promoting unity through cultural exchange. The festival was also attended by Nepal’s Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Civil Aviation, as well as foreign mission heads and international musicians in Kathmandu.
