THE Ministry of Commerce held an online coordination meeting on facilitating the import of medicines and ensuring that there is no shortage of medicines needed by the people, yesterday afternoon in accordance with the COVID-19 protective guidelines set by the Ministry of Health and Sports.
The meeting was attended by Union Minister for Commerce Dr Pwint San, Deputy Minister U Nyunt Aung, Joint-Secretary of the Central Committee for the Acceleration of Trade and Goods Brig-Gen Yan Naung Soe, the Permanent Secretary and department officials, the Chairman of the UMFCCI (Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry, the Chairman of the Myanmar Pharmaceutical Medical Device Manufacturer Association (MPMDMA) and officials from companies importing medicines and supplies.
At the meeting, the Union Minister said efforts are being made to ensure that there is no shortage of medicines needed by the people and to facilitate the import of medicines, with continuous import of the medicines that are needed not only during the current COVID-19 crisis but also the vitamins that the people need to take regularly, medicines for seasonal flu, cough and diarrhoea and chronic diseases. In addition, relevant ministries, UMFCCI and its associates are coordinating to bring them to market as soon as possible. The Deputy Minister and Brig-Gen Yan Naung Soe discussed the issue of importing medicines and supplies, Vitamin C, Vitamin D and Zinc that are permitted to distribute with One-Time Permit and the issue of importing much-needed medicines by charter planes from the People’s Republic of China and India.
The Ministry of Commerce is granting the licence for the import of medical supplies and medicines related to the prevention, control and treatment of COVID-19 online also on public holidays.
