MYANMAR and Russian Federation presided over the 11th ADMM-Plus Experts' Working Group on Counter-Terrorism Meeting (EWG on CT Meeting) via videoconferencing on 29 and 30 June.

During the meeting, the CoChair countries —Myanmar and Russia first made opening remarks and discussed the topic called "On Assessment of Terrorist Threats in Southeast Asia."

The leaders highlighted the activities of the political and religious extremists in ASEAN regions, well-known acts of terrorism, reviews on such cases, other activities of unlawful Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), National Unity Government (NUG) and People Defence Force (PDF) like murder cases and attacks on schools committed by breaking the international law and existing law of the country.

During the discussion with the title "Discussion on Cooperation of Regional Countries to Combat Terrorist Groups", they exchanged views on the cooperation work of ADMM-Plus countries in combating terrorist groups, terrorisms of Arakan Rohingya Salvation Army (ARSA), NUG and PDF which were declared terrorist groups under the 2014 Anti-Terrorism Law, potential cooperation work of ARSA and NUG to accelerate the terrorisms for certain political gains with the Bengali issue on Bangladesh border areas and exchange of information to protect their cross-border crimes.

The Russian officials then discussed the acts of terrorism of Syria that threaten Russia, the establishment of an anti-terrorism system, counter-terrorism activities in the Northern Caucasus region and the role of the Russian Federation Army in combatting terrorism of Syria.

Then, the 10 ASEAN countries and partners also exchanged views on the respective papers and suggestions.

Myanmar and Russian Federation will conduct as co-chair of ADMM-Plus EWG on CT from 2021 to 2023.
