EFFORTS to combat illegal trade, overseen by the Illegal Trade Eradication Steering Committee, are being carried out effectively by the law.
On 30 October, the combined on-duty teams captured a Nissan UD truck (worth approximately K25 million) carrying two kinds of industrial materials and a kind of consumer goods worth K9.46 million in the Yethaya temporary vehicle checkpoint, seven kinds of industrial materials valued at K12.85 million without official documents at the Maeyan joint checkpoint in Tachilek Township. The action was taken as per Customs procedures.
Similarly, the combined teams supervised by the Mandalay Region Illegal Trade Eradication Task Force conducted inspections and seized a Nissan Diesel truck (worth approximately K55 million) carrying 17 kinds of consumer goods and nine kinds of industrial materials (worth about K32 million) without official documents at the Yadanabon Bridge (Mandalay) checkpoint, two trucks (worth approximately K98 million) carrying three kinds of industrial materials, consumer goods and a kind of foodstuffs worth K68.8 without official documents at the Kywetetson checkpoint, a Mitsubishi Fuso truck (worth approximately K25 million) carrying a kind of industrial materials (worth K14.4 million) without official documents at the Myitnge checkpoint, a Changlong truck (estimated value of K50 million) carrying 11 kinds of industrial materials and two kinds of consumer goods (worth K46.7 million) without official documents in Singaing Township and a Nissan Condor truck (estimated value of K33 million) carrying four kinds of industrial materials and a kind of consumer goods (worth about K14 million) without official documents on the Kyaukse. The action was carried out in line with Customs procedures.
Furthermore, the combined on-duty teams nabbed illegal charcoal weighing 5.31 tonnes (worth K98,448) in Magway and Thayet Districts, an unregistered motorbike (worth K100,000) in Yenangyoung Township and illegal teak weighing 0.566 tonne (worth K240,000) in Ingapu Township. The action was conducted under the Forest Law and the Export-Import Law.
Overall, on 30 October, 18 arrests were made, seizing illegal items worth approximately K484 million.
