PLANS are underway to cultivate more than 428,000 acres of monsoon paddy in Kayin State during the 2026-2027 financial year to ensure food self-sufficiency for local farmers, increase household incomes, and export surplus rice, according to the Department of Agriculture.

YANGON Region has exceeded its target for cultivating monsoon chilli (Hmyarni variety). A total of 211 acres had been targeted for cultivation in Hlegu and Taikkyi townships, but by the first week of August, farmers had already planted 257 acres, according to the Yangon Region Department of Agriculture.
