News release on COVID-19
(8:00 p.m., 12-3-2020)
1. The Ministry of Health and Sports is continuously conducting surveillance on COVID-19 acute respiratory disease at international entry/exit gates, in hospital-based and community-based processes, and in collaboration with private hospitals.
2. There are 14 quarantined patients under surveillance in respective hospitals between 6 p.m., 11-3-2020, to 6 p.m., 12-3-2020. Their lab samples have been sent to the National Health Laboratory (Yangon).

State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi attended an emergency meeting on the 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs yesterday.
In her address to the meeting, the State Counsellor reiterated that this meeting was to discuss processes and action plans to ease the long-term repercussions of COVID-19 on the citizens of Myanmar.

The 26th meeting of the Union Peace Dialogue Joint Committee (UPDJC) Secretariat was held at the National Reconciliation and Peace Centre (NRPC) yesterday.
The meeting discussed future plans for implementing the decisions of the 18th UPDJC meeting, and plans to hold the next secretariat meeting.

Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services Senior General Min Aung Hlaing received the delegation led by Mr Hideo Watanabe, chairman of the Japan-Myanmar Friendship Association, at the Bayintnaung Yeiktha in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
At the meeting, they discussed matters on further promotion of friendship between Japan and Myanmar, Japan’s assistance to the internal peace and regional development tasks in Myanmar and current situation in Myanmar, according to the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services.

Union Election Commission Chairman U Hla Thein received a delegation from The Carter Centre, led by its Myanmar department representative Mr Sean Dunne, at the UEC’s office in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday.
During the meeting, they discussed preparations to ensure the upcoming multi-party 2020 General Elections be conducted in line with the five norms, The Carter Centre’s experience in monitoring previous elections and compiling a report, monitoring activities for the 2020 General Election and future plans.

Established since 1908 in the heart of Yangon, exactly on the Merchant Street in Pabedan Township, a hundred years old building would soon become a sophisticated urbane modern documentation venue in the name of National Library (Yangon).
Director Daw Yee Yee Htwe of the Library said, “The structure is under renovation and repair for quite some time. Currently, collections and documentations are in progress. Task is almost completed about ninety per cent. It doors for the public would open in the first week of April.”
