Heavy rainfall and riverbank erosion on the night of 30 July caused a breach in the Ngawun River embankment in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyawady Region, resulting in flooding in five urban wards, major roads in the town and 57 surrounding villages.

Thirteen flood relief camps have been opened, and personnel from the Tatmadaw, Myanmar Police Force, Fire Services Department, social welfare and charity organizations, together with residents, are carrying out rescue and relief operations. These include evacuating residents and property, distributing food and providing healthcare services.

Efforts to prevent further erosion and flooding are also underway, including placing sandbags, installing flow-control measures and reinforcing embankments. Officials from the South-West Command have inspected the operations and coordinated the necessary support.
