PRESIDENTIAL spokesperson Dr Khine Khine Soe replied to queries raised by media on the State Visit of President U Min Aung Hlaing to China from 15 to 19 June. The interview is as follow:
Q: Could you please explain the main objectives of the President’s State Visit to China? A: Yes. The President’s State Visit to China had four main objectives. The first was to enhance State development and strengthen multi-sector cooperation between China and Myanmar. The second was to promote cooperation for lasting peace in Myanmar. The third was to increase Chinese investment in Myanmar, and the fourth was to promote trade.
Q: What political benefits do you assess from this visit?
A: The visit, the China-Myanmar goodwill visit, the President’s goodwill visit, brought many benefits for our country. During the trip, the President met with Chinese President Xi Jinping, the Premier, and the Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. During the meeting with President Xi Jinping, what the President emphasized was that we would like to strengthen China-Myanmar Pauk-Phaw relations. The next one is to establish a China-Myanmar community through thick and thin. Another one is that the President placed special emphasis on strategic comprehensive cooperation. He also welcomed Myanmar’s recent general election and expressed full support for the current elected government, including its efforts in State development, stability, and peace processes. He further stated that China will continue to support Myanmar in international platforms such as the United Nations and ASEAN, ensuring equal and full participation. Therefore, this visit is considered highly beneficial in political and diplomatic terms, opening a new chapter for Myanmar on the international stage.
Q: What economic benefits were achieved from the visit?
A: Our President’s visit brought a lot of benefits for the economic sector. During the visit, the Myanmar-China Trade and Investment Networking Summit was held in Shanghai. During the Summit, over 500 Chinese business people attended, and over 200 Myanmar business people. These Chinese business people included those from state-owned enterprises and also Belt and Road Initiative companies. At the summit, 70 Business-to-Business (B2B) MoUs were signed. This is a very positive outcome that will create new opportunities for businesses and the people of our country.
Q: What benefits can Myanmar people gain from the discussions that have elevated Pauk-Phaw relations to a certain level?
A: Discussions covered many sectors benefiting different groups of people. We discussed the agricultural sector, starting from the development of agriculture and livestock breeding sectors, which are fundamental industries of our countries, to education, healthcare, technology, AI, IT and space sector development and potential cooperation in these sectors. Discussions were held to cooperate in electricity and renewable energy, railway paving, and mineral extraction in detail, and reached an agreement. Another message that I want to share is that this visit discussed on cooperation between Myanmar and Chinese experts in areas such as space technology, agriculture, environmental conservation, and meteorological monitoring, and we discussed launching a satellite in the near future through joint efforts. This can be described as a new step for Myanmar into space technology through the President’s visit.
Q: As a spokesperson, how do you view this visit overall, and what would you like to add?
A: As mentioned earlier, this was a successful State Visit that achieved its objectives. It brought political and diplomatic success, and also economic benefits for the people of Myanmar. Moreover, in addition to B2B agreements, 18 government-to-government MoUs were signed covering areas such as environmental conservation, information, health, and social affairs. Overall, this trip is considered highly beneficial for the people of Myanmar.
