THE KNU and PDF terrorists exploded the reinforced concrete Kawnwe bridge, which is 196 feet in length and 40 feet in width, on the Asia Highway along the Kawkareik-Myawady route in Kayin State on 15 December 2023.

Due to the explosion, the trade flows were suspended, causing transport difficulties. The government conducted repair work. While one engineer and 26 workers led by the deputy director of the Kawnwe bridge maintenance task force were repairing the bridge, KNU and PDF terrorists launched an attack from northwest of the bridge using two suicide drones yesterday, resulting in one death and eight injuries.

The security force conducted security measures in the vicinity of that location, and the victims were taken to the Tatmadaw hospital in Kawkareik and were also transported to the Taungkalay hospital in Hpa-an Township for medical treatment.

Terrorists intentionally destroyed the non-military targets, causing huge impacts on the socioeconomic status of locals. Residents strongly opposed their destructive actions, and the security force accelerated the security measures.
