As the host nation, Myanmar convened the 14th Meeting of the Lead Committee on Climate Change and Food Security yesterday morning via an online platform.

The meeting was chaired by Dr Thanda Kyi, Director-General of the Department of Planning under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, who serves as Myanmar’s SOM-AMAF leader. Representatives from relevant ministries also attended.

In addition, chairpersons of sectoral working groups under the ASEAN Ministers on Agriculture and Forestry (AMAF), chairpersons of relevant working groups under the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community, and representatives from international partner organisations — including GIZ, FAO, SEARCA, RECOFTC and NTFP-EP — as well as delegates from ASEAN member states and officials from the ASEAN Secretariat participated in the meeting.

During the session, participants discussed and presented outcomes and progress from various ASEAN high-level and sectoral meetings, covering areas such as ASEAN agriculture, research and development, crops, forestry, forestry and climate change, fisheries, livestock, rural development and poverty alleviation, science, technology and innovation, health development, and energy.

They also exchanged views on potential collaborative projects with international partner organisations aimed at enhancing the region’s resilience to climate change and strengthening food security. Furthermore, they agreed on the next steps for the ongoing initiatives of ASEAN member states in the fields of climate change and food security.
