A corruption prevention awareness and discussion session was jointly organized yesterday morning by the Ministry of Border Affairs and the Anti-Corruption Commission at the Ayeyawady Hall of the Ministry of Border Affairs.

The event was attended by State Administration Council Member and Union Minister for Border Affairs, Lt-Gen Yar Pyae, Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission U Sis Aye, Deputy Minister Maj-Gen Phyo Thant, the Permanent Secretary, departmental officials, officers and staff.

The Union minister stated that corruption is an obstacle to the implementation of the country’s development objectives. He stressed that to build a good and clean government, all civil servants must carry out their duties free from corruption. In fulfilling the responsibilities of the Ministry of Border Affairs, he urged staff to perform with integrity, diligence, honesty and a spirit of service to the country and the people, and to contribute to national development without engaging in corrupt practices.

Afterwards, the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission explained that corruption leads to the misuse and mismanagement of the country’s resources and harms the basic interests of the people. He emphasized that everyone, starting from individuals in every sector, must participate in the process of eradicating corruption.

Following this, the Director-General and officials from the Commission’s Investigation Department gave a presentation and discussed matters related to anti-corruption measures and relevant laws.

In the afternoon, a team led by Commission Member U Kyaw Win Thein met the Corruption Prevention Unit (CPU) led by Deputy Minister Maj-Gen Phyo Thant. They exchanged views on the strengths and weaknesses encountered in the implementation of the Unit’s activities.
