Union Minister for Information U Maung Maung Ohn, Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Soe Win, Deputy Minister for Education Dr Zaw Myint, Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ms Ma Jia and other relevant officials attended a ceremony to provide “Moral Support for Communities Affected by Earthquake” marking the 75th anniversary of China-Myanmar diplomatic ties at Myanma Radio and Television in Nay Pyi Taw Tatkon yesterday.
The ceremony commenced with a performance by the vocalists and students, followed by a screening of a video clip on “Myanmar, Moving Forward Aftermath of Severe Earthquake”.
The attendees also observed a minute of silence in remembrance of those killed during the powerful earthquake.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn said the emergency search and rescue team from China was the first and fastest to arrive in Myanmar following the earthquake. Due to the efforts of these teams, four survivors and 64 deceased individuals were successfully handed over to their respective family members. The Chinese medical teams brought a wide range of medicines and equipment and set up a mobile clinic in Mandalay, one of the areas most affected by the earthquake, where they were able to provide medical care to the injured.
In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of Myanmar-China diplomatic relations, a media dialogue between the two countries was held on 1 June at the Parkroyal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw. The 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Myanmar and China will fall on 8 June and a grand and meaningful ceremony will be held to mark this diamond jubilee.
Chinese Ambassador to Myanmar Ms Ma Jia also made a speech at the event, expressing her belief in a speedy recovery in the quake-hit areas, and relaying the friendly relations between China and Myanmar through media cooperation and shared community spirit.
The Chinese Ambassador handed over these Myanmar-language films and short documentaries, produced by CMG, to Union Minister U Maung Maung Ohn for broadcasting on Myanma Radio and Television (MRTV).
Then, relief supplies were provided for 11 households from MRTV and 110 households from the Ministry of Education, affected by the earthquake. This was followed by entertainment programmes, including performances of songs by the vocalists and a quiz programme for the attendees.
At noon, the video clips produced by the CMG were screened at the MRTV Auditorium to entertain the quake-hit communities from Tatkon Township.
