Rescue and rehabilitation efforts are ongoing with full momentum in areas affected by the recent powerful earthquake that struck Mandalay Region. Various organisations are cooperating closely with local communities to provide support.
Lt-Gen Thet Pon from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), along with responsible officials, inspected repair work on damaged buildings within the Sagaing University of Arts and Science in Aung Chan Thar Ward, Sagaing yesterday. They also assessed preparations to reopen the campus in time for the new academic term. At Rajamanisula Kaungmuthaw Pagoda in Sithee Ward, the three-storey building of Basic Education High School No (1) in Poetann Ward, and the buildings of the inscriptions halls No (1) and No (2), clearing of debris and reconstruction of temporary classrooms were underway. The delegation offered refreshments and coordinated necessary support on the ground.
In the afternoon, they inspected the damaged Swan Oo Ponya Shin Pagoda, Pitaka Monastery on the Sagaing Hills, Moenyin Monastery in Htut Kaung Ward and the Sitagu Buddhist University compound and Thakyadita Nunnery School in Thawtapan Ward. Tatmadaw personnel and Myanmar Police Force members participated in clearing debris, maintaining cleanliness, and removing rubble using heavy machinery. The team offered encouragement and refreshments while facilitating necessary coordination.
Likewise, Lt-Gen Myo Moe Aung from the the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army), along with officials inspected sites in Maha Aungmye and Chanmyathazi Townships in Mandalay, including Yadanabon East and West Wards, Yemon Taung Ward and Kanthaya Ward. The observed demolition of damaged and unsafe buildings, debris clearance with heavy machinery, and efforts to ensure that major roads remain open and safe for public use. Required support was coordinated on-site.
Similarly, Lt-Gen Soe Tint Naing visited Maha Thetkyaranthi Pagoda in Taungthaman Village, Amarapura Township, where he inspected the damaged sacred relic chambers and religious items stored after the quake. At Vaungtawyar Pagoda and Yenar Pariyatti Monastery in Aungmyethazan Township, he examined the demolition and clearance of a damaged two-storey school building by Tatmadaw personnel, ensuring that operations proceeded efficiently and in coordination with local needs.
He also visited quake-damaged pagodas and religious buildings on Mandalay Hill, where debris was cleared and reconstruction work had begun.
Likewise, Lt-Gen Myo Thant Naing and responsible officials visited the quake-damaged monastic buildings in Nga Ka Taung Village, Kyaukse Township, inspecting rehabilitation works and offering religious donations to the abbot.
Continuing his visit, he inspected the damage to Shwe Taung Htee Pagoda and restoration work at the large stone stupas in Sugyee Ward. Rope-and-pulley systems were being installed to support the transport of necessary materials. In Taungyin Village, Sintgu Township, the damaged main power substation (Belin) had been repaired and was now fully restored.
Efforts are being made intensively to rehabilitate all religious, public, and educational infrastructure in the aftermath of the earthquake, with support from the Tatmadaw, government departments and the general public.
