PILGRIMS and historians have visited ancient pagodas and Buddha images in Nyaungpingyisu Village in Pobbathiri Township, Nay Pyi Taw, according to the Nay Pyi Taw Nyaungpingyisu Ancient Heritage Trust (Interim).

“The experts and architects who restored the quake-damaged pagodas in the Bagan Cultural Heritage Zone also conducted maintenance on the cluster of 47 pagodas in Nyaungpingyisu back in 2013. The architectural features of these pagodas suggest they belong to the Konbaung and Nyaungyan eras. Historians from the Department of Historical Research and National Library estimate their age to be between 200 and 300 years or probably even older,” a trustee said.

A monastery near the pagodas hosts a six-foot by fourfoot jewel-laden regal bed and ancient gilded palm-leaves. The trust, led by Sayadaw Bhaddanta Cakkinda, holds custodianship over the antiquities and pagodas.

The pagodas are accessible through the Tawwin Yadana Road connecting the Pyinmana-Taungnyo and Yazahtani highways.

Since 2019, Nyaungpingyisu village and its ancient pagodas have captured the attention of pilgrims, attracting around 100 visitors per public holiday.
