The 13th relief flight of All Nippon Airways (ANA) organized by the Myanmar Embassy in Tokyo landed at Yangon International Airport bringing back a total of 138 Myanmar citizens after they were stranded in Japan due to the suspension of international flights yesterday evening.

Amidst growing concerns over the strong supply of illicit drugs and cross-border crime in the Golden Triangle, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) yesterday handed a major delivery of equipment aimed at strengthening law enforcement capacities in Myanmar’s border regions. In recent years, a rise in synthetic drug production has reshaped the illicit drug market in Southeast Asia and beyond, feeding a regional methamphetamine market of up to US$61.4 billion annually. Regional transnational organized crime groups play a key role in this business, exploiting growing trade infrastructure and gaps in border security to move illicit goods throughout the region.

Union Attorney-General U Tun Tun Oo received a courtesy call of UNODC Country Manager Mr Benedikt Hofmann at the former’s office in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning. At the meeting, they discussed the works of Union Attorney-General Office in the rule of law and justice, legal advice and prosecution, joint projects with international partner organizations, cooperation between UAGO and UNODC since 2014, future plans between the two offices in the post-COVID-19 and possible support of UNODC in the ‘UAGO Strategic Planning 2020-2024’.
