Myanma Railway, under the Ministry of Transport and Communications, will run the up and down airbag trains on the Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay route with battery-powered electric locomotives and air-conditioned carriages starting from 22 November 2025.
MR is trying to ensure smooth transport for commuters and enhance the quality of train service. The up-train with battery-powered electric locomotives and air-conditioned carriages will depart from Nay Pyi Taw railway station at noon and arrive at Mandalay station at 5 pm. It will leave from Mandalay station at 6 am and arrive at Nay Pyi Taw station at 11 am.
Those who want to continue their journey to Yangon from Mandalay can change the train at Nay Pyi Taw station. They can hop on the scheduled flight to leave at 12 noon there and arrive in Yangon at 5:30 pm.
Similarly, those passengers from Yangon leaving for Mandalay can change the train at Nay Pyi Taw station. They can take an electric locomotive train ride after disembarking the DEMU that will depart at 6 am in Yangon.
Those up and down airbag trains with air-conditioned service on the Nay Pyi Taw-Mandalay route include two passenger carriages each designed for ordinary class and upper class. The airbag train can accommodate 238 passengers.
The ticket fare is set at K15,000 for the ordinary class and K20,000 for the upper class. It is available for online purchase with MMQR five days in advance. Those who want to book the ticket at the station need to make three days in advance for the upper class and one day in advance for the ordinary class. There will be four stops in between the route: Tatkon, Pyawbwe, Thazi and Kyaukse stations. The travel time for each route is five hours, including stops.
