A ceremony to conclude the108th Buddha Pujaniya festival of Sule Pagoda was held, with a rice donation ceremony, at the pagoda in Yangon yesterday.
First, the congregation including members of the pagoda’s board of trustees and well-wishers received the Five Precepts from State Sangha Maha Nayaka Committee member Sayadaw Thanlyin Min Kyaung Sayadaw Agga Maha Pandita Agga Maha Saddhamma Jotika Daja Bhaddanta Candima Bhivumsa, and listened to the Parittas recited by Members of Sangha.

THE Myanmar Muslim Youth’s Religious Organization organized the 5th plenary meeting of its State/Region representatives at the City Hotel Yangon yesterday morning. Union Minister for Religious Affairs and Culture Thura U Aung Ko attended the event. Haji U Myint Tun, the President of the organization, delivered an opening speech.
Union Minister Thura U Aung Ko made a congratulatory remark on the meeting.
Responsible persons from the MaMaLa headquarters, which is Myanmar acronym of the organization, and its brotherhood organizations extended greetings before the meeting.

ON ACCOUNT of the number of coronavirus cases and related deaths rising in neighboring China, the health authorities in border towns have beefed up surveillance at the border gate with China with the help of thermal scan equipment.
Health staff from the Muse Township Health Department are conducting surveillance by scanning travellers entering Myanmar from China from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. everyday.

No novel coronavirus patient is found in Yangon Region, although Wuhan in China is facing the outbreak of the pneumonia and the Waibagi Hospital in North Okkalapa has already prepared for real time treatments should anyone is found contacted with the virus, according to Public Health Department office of Yangon Region.

CHINA Eastern airline has cancelled its flights from Wuhan City, Hubei Province of China, to Yangon and Mandalay from 24 January to 29 February in response to the coronavirus outbreak that sent the Chinese city into lockdown.
According to the World Health Organization, several cases of pneumonia first surfaced in the last week of December in 2019 but the virus did not match any other known virus.

HEALTH authorities have been placed on alert due to the outbreak in Wuhan, central China of a deadly coronavirus, beefing up Pneumonia surveillance at the Yangon, Nay Pyi Taw and Mandalay international airports since 5th January.

A coordination meeting on closing a camp of the internally displaced persons-IDPs in Kyaukpyu was held at the Rakhine State Government Office in Sittway on 21st January.
The Kyauktalon Camp will be closed in accordance with the IDP camps closure National Strategy which will ensure all displaced people at IDP camps return home safely and with dignity and rebuild their life without depending on others, said Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr Win Myat Aye in his opening remarks at the meeting.

The Union Election Commission held a coordination meeting with its region and state sub-commissions yesterday at its office in Nay Pyi Taw in preparation for the 2020 General Election.
In his opening address, UEC chairman U Hla Thein said the commission is making preparations to ensure the 2020 General Election meet five standards: they are free, fair, transparent, reliable, and harmonious with the people’s desire.

The Tatmadaw True News Team organized a press conference at the Defence Services Museum in Nay Pyi Taw yesterday morning.
It was attended by Chairman of Tatmadaw True News Team Maj-Gen Soe Naing Oo, Vice Chairman Maj-Gen Tun Tun Nyi, Secretary Brig-Gen Zaw Min Tun and senior military officers from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief (Army).
Media personnel from local news agencies, daily newspapers, journals, local TV news agencies and locally-based foreign news agencies were also present at the press.
