THE special appeal court comprising Chief Justice of the Union U Htun Htun Oo and Supreme Court Judges U Kyi Thein, U Khin Maung Gyi, U Tin Hong and Daw Khin May Yi have passed interlocutory orders for special civil appeal case No 96/2019 (Mandalay) and 97/2019 (Mandalay) at office No. 1 of Supreme Court of the Union yesterday morning and handed down judgments on four exceptional civil appeal cases — No 71/2019 (Shan), No 95/2019 (Yangon), 99/2019 (Yangon) and 107/2019 (Magway).

THE Myanmar National Human Rights Commission is heartened by the State media news that 24 out of those performing artists, film artists and musicians prosecuted under Section 505-A of the Penal Code, 86 male and female prisoners who are registered and 2,210 male and female prisoners under trial at the prisons and jails in Nay Pyi Taw and respective regions and states, totalling 2,296 have been dismissed from their cases and released in accordance with the laws and procedures.

AYEYAWADY Region was once included in the Mon Nya region, one of three Mon regions—Mon Ti, Mon Saand Mon Nya. Dagon and Dala were in the Mon Ti region; Thaton and Mottama were in the Mon Sa region; Pathein and Myaungmya were parts of the Mon Nya region. Despite being an area where significant Myanmar kings did not establish, the region has been rich in unique historical features. Although the lower part of Myanmar was called “RaMaNya” in the past, it is unknown when it was called. Only the name “RaMaNya” was first found in the very ancient chronicles of Siho (Chapter 76 of the Mahavamsa). King Alaung Mintayar, the founder of the Konbaung dynasty, organized the Mon people from the RaMaNya region to form the Third Myanmar Empire.
