AS a gesture of hailing the Di­amond Jubilee Independence Day, a ceremony to inaugurate a 9-storey medical building took place at the Pathein General Hospital yesterday morning, at­tended by Secretary of the State Administration Council Lt-Gen Aung Lin Dwe.

The SAC Secretary un­veiled the signboard and bronze plaque of the building and viewed round relevant medical wards, the blood centre, labora­tories, operation theatres and other facilities.

Speaking on the occasion at the multifunctional hall of the building, the Secretary said that during the tenure of the State Administration Council, annex­es were opened at hospitals in Hinthada, Hpa-an, Magway, Monywa and Waibargi of Yan­gon. The nine-storey new med­ical building of Pathein General Hospital was built on 2.23 acres of land with more than K22 bil­lion from the allotted fund. Ar­rangements are being made to upgrade Pathein General Hos­pital as a 500-bed facility formed with speciality departments.

The Secretary continued to say that thanks to the opening of the new building for modern medical treatment, health staff will have the chance to study ad­vanced medical science. Hence, they have to apply these good opportunities in uplifting their medical treatment capacity and providing better healthcare ser­vices for the people.

The Union Minister for Health expressed that the Min­istry of Health is striving for the betterment of public healthcare services and treatments to ena­ble all people to have longevity free from diseases. The ministry manages 1,178 hospitals across the nation, 133 of which are lo­cated in the Ayeyawady Region. These regional hospitals admit more than 3,000 inpatients per day, he noted. The Union Minis­ter underscored Pathein Gener­al Hospital gave treatments to more than 70,000 inpatients and more than 60,000 outpatients in 2022.

The Chief Minister of Ay­eyawady Region spoke words of thanks, and the head of the Region’s Public Health Depart­ment/Medical Services Depart­ment and the medical superin­tendent presented gifts to the guests.
