The Ayeyawady Region government provided rice, medicines and essential food items to flood-affected residents at the Dauntgyi Village Monastery Dhamma Hall, Nyaungwine Village and Paukgon Village Monastery in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyawady Region, yesterday.

The region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw, accompanied by relevant officials, provided these items to the flood victims in person.

Hluttaw representatives met the residents and encouraged them, while officials from the Region Public Health and Medical Services Department provided health awareness talks.

They also inspected the completion of embankment reinforcement works to control water flow from the old embankment towards the embankment area, where floodwaters overflowed after breaking through the Ngawun embankment’s lower riverbank sand ridge. They also inspected the ongoing construction of left and right-side flood barriers at the embankment water inlet, the storage of necessary materials, and the completion of Geo Bag preparations to prevent deep water currents.

Since floodwaters entered wards and village tracts, rescue and relief operations have been jointly carried out by departmental officials, local military units, Myanmar Police Force members, Fire Brigade members, auxiliary firefighters, the Myanmar Red Cross Society and social organizations. Moreover, charitable organizations, individual donors, social groups and artistes from various regions and states have been providing relief supplies daily in coordination with the relevant coordination offices.
