To foster closer friendship and promote cultural exchange between the peoples of Myanmar and China, a traditional Chinese Dragon Boat Festival and cultural exhibition, themed “Rowing Together in Harmony, Spreading Love with Fragrant Sticky Rice”, was held on 19 June at the China Cultural Centre in Yangon.

At the ceremony, Minister Counsellor Zheng Zhihong of the Chinese Embassy to Myanmar delivered the opening remarks. He highlighted that the traditional festival, celebrated globally, holds a rich history and has been inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity since 2009.

“This cultural exhibition, based on the traditional festival, showcases a variety of traditions, performances, games, food, and tea culture, which will significantly contribute to enhancing the close friendship between the peoples of our two countries,” the minister counsellor stated.

Myanmar-China Friendship Association (Central) Chairman U Tin Oo noted that China’s Dragon Boat Festival and Sticky Rice Tasting mirror Myanmar’s traditional boat racing and sticky rice cake festivals celebrated during Tazaungmone and Nadaw.

The ceremony featured a diverse array of performances, including an introduction to the Dragon Boat Festival, a Q&A session, poetry recitations, and other interesting programmes.
