At the invitation of the China–ASEAN Legal Research Centre in Chongqing, a Myanmar delegation led by Dr Htein Lin Oo, Deputy Minister for Legal Affairs and Deputy Attorney-General, attended the seventh China–ASEAN Legal Cooperation Forum, held on 21 November.

The forum took place at 10 am on 21 November in the Changjiang Hall of the Chongqing Yuzhou Hotel. Attendees included Mr Chen Wenqing, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Secretary of the Political and Legal Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China (CPC) as well as Secretary of the China Law Society; Mr Yuan Jiajun, Member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Secretary of the Chongqing Municipal Committee; Deputy Prime Ministers, Chief Justices, Ministers and Deputy Ministers from the legal and judicial ministries of ASEAN member states; officials from the ASEAN Secretariat; the President, professors and students of the Southwest University of Political Science and Law; Professor Zhang Xiao Jun, Secretary-General of the China–ASEAN Legal Research Centre, along with centre members, as well as legal scholars from China.

At the forum, Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney-General Dr Htein Lin Oo stated that the Ministry of Legal Affairs and the China–ASEAN Legal Research Centre had been continuing their cooperation through ongoing legal research activities. He added that both countries had been working together effectively to uphold the rule of law, achieving notable results in combating transnational crimes. He also noted that the Ministry of Legal Affairs was engaging in legal cooperation with ASEAN member states.

He further explained that bilateral meetings and discussions between the Ministry of Legal Affairs and the China–ASEAN Legal Research Centre had helped to foster long-term friendship and mutual understanding. In line with the memorandum of understanding, both sides would continue to collaborate on legal analysis, review and implementation; student exchanges; and the delivery of legal training programmes.

In the afternoon, the Myanmar delegation, led by the Deputy Minister and Deputy Attorney-General, met with a team headed by Yin Baohu, Deputy Secretary-General of the China Law Society. During the meeting, both sides exchanged views on legal cooperation between the Ministry of Legal Affairs and the China–ASEAN Legal Research Centre.
