At the official invitation of General Odongo Jeje Abubakhar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uganda, Chair of the Coordinating Bureau of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe participated in the Ministerial Meeting of NAM, which is being held on 15-16 October 2025 in Kampala, Uganda.

Foreign Ministers, Deputy Foreign Ministers and representatives of the NAM Member States have been attending the Ministerial Meeting and delivering country statements at the Plenary Session being held at the Speke Resort Convention Centre.

Union Minister for Foreign Affairs U Than Swe delivered the country statement at the Plenary Session of the Ministerial Meeting of NAM in the morning of 15 October 2025. In his statement, the Union Minister highlighted that the world today is confronting multi-faceted challenges, resulting disproportionate impact on developing countries. He also mentioned that the competition among global powers could lead to potential challenges like a trade war and World War III. To defend such worrying challenges and to safeguard peace, stability and development, the solidarity of NAM is important than ever. He stressed the importance of NAM to continue to protect the common interests of developing countries. He also mentioned that as a founding member of the NAM, Myanmar has been strictly following the principles of the NAM. In accordance with the theme, “Deepening cooperation for Shared Global Affluence”, he assured Myanmar’s reiteration on unwavering commitments, including the commitment to work hand-in-hand with other NAM Member Countries towards achieving peace, equality and development of the developing countries.

Moreover, the Minister apprised the Government’s efforts on ensuring free and fair general elections, cooperation with the neighbouring countries on combatting online scams and transnational crimes and ongoing developments in the country, including Rakhine State.

Before the Ministerial Meeting, a delegation led by U Kyaw Tin Shein, Myanmar Ambassador to the Arab Republic of Egypt, attended the Senior Officials Meeting of NAM held on 13 and 14 October.

The Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) is a forum which was founded in 1961 with the view to advancing the interests of developing countries. Currently, NAM has 121 member States, 18 observer countries and 10 observer organizations. Myanmar is a founding member of the Non-Aligned Movement.
